Chapter – 60 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 19

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Mune, Sage Pulasthya was born from my mind before Padmakalpa, his son Vaishrava had sons Ravana, Shurpanakha, Kumbhakarna, and Vibhishana from Devi Kaikesi, and Kubera/Vaishravana from Devi Ilavitha, lived in the magnificent city of Alakapuri built by Vishwakarma and conducted extreme Tapasya contemplating upon Lord Shiva. Kubera who was the son of the Bhramin Yajjadaththa in his previous life had the virtues of previous life lightning lamps in the shrine of Lord Shiva, arrived in Kashi, and conducted extreme austerities and Tapasya contemplating upon Lord Shiva. Vaishravana achieved the highest of the knowledge of Oneness in all, freed from all the impurities, consecrated a Linga, and conduct veneration, continued Tapasya until his body was completely emaciated, there were only bones left in him. Lord Vishweshwara along with Goddess Parvathi appeared before Vaishravana and spoke: “ Lord of Alakapuri/Lord of Lanka, I am pleased with your devotion, hence as for a boon.” Vaishravana opened his eyes, witnessed the Lord Chandrachooda who has supreme brilliance, the Lord of Uma has the radiance of thousands of sun, Devadevesha who is the provider of an abundance of piousness, Vaishravana looked at the Lord of Lords, spoke with folded hands “Oh! Natha, Oh! Varenesha, Oh! Shashishekhara I shall prostrate before you, Oh! Devadeva, Oh! Umapathi,” Lord Mahadeva touched the body of Vaishravana, soon he regained the divine form. He opened eyes and found the gorgeous Goddess Uma standing next to the supreme Lord Shiva, looked at Jagathjanani, Paramba, Bhagavathi, and the son of Yajjadhaththa thought in awe “Who is this most beautiful woman/Sarvangasundari in the Universe, standing next to that supreme Lord Mahadeva? She is the epitome of beauty, grace and loveliness must have performed several Tapasya to achieve that nearness to that supreme Lord.”

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Vathsa, shortly the left eye of the son of Yajjnadhaththa/Vaishravana burst out, looking at the loveliness of Goddess Parvathi/Jagathjanani, it irked Goddess Parvathi, and soon Lord Shiva pacified her “Oh! Uma, he is not a wicked ascetic, he is your son, he was not putting an evil eye on you, and he was praising your loveliness and Tapasya in his heart.” Lord Shiva spoke to the ascetic/Gunanidhi/Vaishravana “Oh! Son, I am pleased with your devotion, I would like to offer the status of Lord of wealth, as a boon to you. You would be highly honored by Yaksha and Kinnaras, you will be the custodian of treasures and all the auspiciousness of the Universe, and you will be performing the task of distributing wealth to the virtuous and noble souls. You will remain my closest companion always; I shall reside close to your city Alakapuri, and make sure to multiply your devotion. Oh! Dear son, she is Devi Uma who is the mother of Universe, and mother of you as well, prostrate before her and receive her grace too.” Devi Parvathi spoke to Gunanidhi affectionately “Oh! Vathsa, let your devotion to the supreme Lord Shiva multiplies, let the boon of Lord Shiva become fruitful to you, unfortunately, you will remain with one eye, because you have looked at me with jealous, you will be famously known as ‘Kubera’.” Thus, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi arrived in the city of Alakapuri which has become the abode of ‘Vaishveshwara’, the city of Alakapuri was situated close to Mount Kailash, and in this way, Lord Kubera achieved the nearness of supreme Lord Mahadeva.”
