||Om Nama: Shivaya||

Chapter – 61 (1) – Rudra Samhitha/Sati Kanda – 1

Maharishi Narada speaks “Oh! Vidhe, you are an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. You have beautifully narrated various legends of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi, I am not satisfied to listening to it, wanted to listen to more glorious myths of supreme Lord Shiva. You have described the supreme Lord Rudra conducted extreme penance and austerities living in the Mount Kailash, Lord Shiva is supreme Yogi, he is worshiped by all the deities, he is pure, and he is free from passion. The Supreme Lord Shiva married Devi Parvathi who was Devi Sati in her previous birth, at the humble request of the deities, for the welfare of the Universe and its living beings. Devi Sati who was born to Daksha Prajapathi has sacrificed her life in Yogagni and took rebirth as Parvathi, the daughter of Mount Himavan. How did it happen? How did she attain that supreme Lord Shiva, an illustrious Yogi in marriage? Kindly narrate all those legends to me.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “ Oh! Thatha, Oh! Munishreshta, I shall describe those glorious legends which would bring Janmasaphlya/fruitfulness of life to the Jeeva. Earlier, I was got attracted to my mind-born daughter Devi Sandhya due to the intervention of Kamadeva who was born from my mind, later the Dharma born from my chest put a sudden halt to my passion for my daughter, shortly Lord Shiva who is supreme Yogi intervened and condemned my immoral act in front of my mind-born sons, eventually, the situation was brought under control by that supreme Lord and returned to his abode Mount Kailash. I have besieged with the Maya of supreme Lord Mahadeva and felt animosity against him, I have made all attempts to disrupt the penances and austerities of that Lord were miserably failed. Later, I sought after the advice of Lord Vishnu who is profound in the philosophies of Lord Shiva, removed my Maya and advised not to create hindrance to the Tapasya of that great Yogi, instead of contemplating the Jagathjanani, Paramba, Bhagavathi, Devi Adishakthi.”

Lord Bhrama continues “ Oh! Mune, I have worshiped Devi Chandika, and supreme Goddess instructed me to advise my son Dhakshaprajapathi to undertake Tapasya in order to achieve Jagathjanani, Bhagavathi as his daughter. Thus, Devi Sati who was born to Dhakshapajapathi was married to that supreme Lord Shiva, and the couple performed various passionate sports. Lord Rudra who is unblemished is the essence of knowledge proved himself as an ideal householder. Lord Rudra who is perfect Yogi was free from passion, undertook extreme Tapasya in the Mount Kailash and this couple had no progeny.  Dhakshaprajapathi was besieged with the Maya of Lord Shiva, became haughty and arrogant. He publicly humiliated that supreme Lord in a grand Yagna organized by him; all the deities were invited except Lord Shiva and Devi Sati.  All the deities traveled to the palace of Dhaksha in their own vehicles, Devi Sati became restless and wanted to participate in the Yagna, decided to leave Mount Kailash at her own will, was accompanied by the Shivaganas.  Daksha who was swollen with immense pride and arrogance was insulted his own daughter in the large assembly. She was not moved by any of the insults until she has noticed that the absence of Rudrabhaga for the supreme Lord in the Yagashala. She could not control her grief and the insult to her husband; she sacrificed her mortal coil in the Yoga Agni. The supreme Lord Devadevasha was extremely raged at this incident; he pulled out one strand from the matted hair locks and thrashed on the floor, a ferocious form of Veerabhadhra has appeared, Lord Shiva ordered Veerabhadhra to destroy the Yagna of Daksha. Soon Veerabhadhra and Ganas approached the Yagna arena and created huge havoc, burned the Yagnashala and ingredients of Yagna, emptied the Yagna arena, and chopped off the head of Daksha and shoved to the Yajjagni. Veerabhadhra returned to Lord and informed the destruction took place in the Yagna of Dhakshaprajapathi. The supreme Lord Rudra is unconquerable, the Veda and Smriti describe the fury of Lord Shiva as formidable. All the deities eulogized that supreme Lord and brought him back to serenity, the supreme Lord Shiva is approachable only with pure devotion. The supreme Lord restored peace in the world, continued austerities for several thousands of years, Dhakshaprajapathi was brought back to life, all those who were injured in the Yagna arena were pacified by that compassionate Lord, and the Yagna was completed successfully. The flame from the body parts of Devi Sati's fallen on the Earth became sacred Devi shrines. The flame that fallen on the top of the mountain is famously known as the shrine of Jwalamukhi, which is the sacred place that provides all the piousness and auspiciousness,  removes the sins, and fulfills all the desires of the worshiper. This flame is worshiped on the occasion of various ceremonial rites for fulfilling the desires of the worshiper. Thus, Devi Sati who was sacrificed her mortal coil took rebirth as Goddess Parvathi, she performed extreme austerities and Tapasya and attained Lord Shiva as a wedded husband. Oh! Mune, I have described the glorious myth of Devi Sati who was born as Goddess Parvathi, mere listening, or reciting the legend would remove the sins of the worshiper.”
