Chapter – 53 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 12

Maharishi Narada speaks “ Oh! Bhraman, Oh! Prajapati, Oh! Thatha, you are a sincere devotee of Lord Mahadeva, kindly speak elaborately on the Shivathaththva.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “ Oh! Vathsa, I was born on the lotus from the navel of Lord Narayan, once, I have invited all the illustrious sage and Rishis and deities, to assemble before the supreme Lord Vishnu who resides in the milky ocean, Oh! Narada, we all arrived in the abode of that compassionate Lord Vishnu was received with great respect, he rose from the seat and invited us with folded hands.”

Lord Vishnu began to speak after mentally offering prayers to supreme Lord Mahadeva “Oh! Lord Bhrama and deities, kindly reveal the purpose of your visit and I am willing to offer all the help.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Munishwara, all the Rishis and deities assembled offered humble salutations before the Supreme Lord Vishnu who is Lord of the Universe, and began to speak in an amiable tone.”

The deities speak “ Oh! Prabho, kindly enlighten us who should be worshiped to get rid of miseries and sorrows of the worldly existence?”

Lord Vishnu smilingly looked at Bhrama and began to speak passionately “Oh! Lord Bhrama, I have already narrated it to you. I shall repeat the same for the benefit of all. Oh! Bhrama, you have seen before your eyes and have clear knowledge about who should be worshiped to get rid of miseries. Once again, I shall reiterate about it, Lord Mahadeva should be worshiped to get rid of grief and troubles of worldly existence, therefore whoever desirous to attain peace, serenity, and prosperity, and all kinds of auspiciousness should worship Lord Shiva.  Thara and her family stopped veneration of Lingamoorthi of Maheshwara met their complete destruction; my powerful Maya worked on them, got distracted from the worship of Maheshwara, and met their destruction. The Supreme Lord Shiva should be worshiped in the form of Linga to get rid of all the perils. It’s the piousness of the  Sharvalingarchana keeps all the deities, Dhaithyas, you and me, and the noble people living in peace. All the deities worship the Lingamoorthi of that supreme Lord Shiva and get fulfilled their wishes and boons. An hour or a moment passed without meditating upon that supreme Lord Mahadeva would be considered as sinful, that causes utter misapprehension and blemishes. Whoever performs the worship of Lord Shiva and contemplate upon him would get evade from the miseries and sorrows.  Whoever worships the Lingamoorthi of supreme Lord Mahadeva would provide wealth, richness, fame, possessions, appropriate companion as wedded wife or husband, good health, free from ailments, heavenly pleasure, and ultimately liberation from the cycles of repeated births.  Whoever conducts the daily worship of the Shivalinga would achieve success in all the endeavors and remain sinless.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Narada, thus the deities and Sages expressed sincere gratefulness to Lord Vishnu and appealed to describe the types of Linga for the welfare of humans on the Earth.”

The compassionate Lord Vishnu spoke to Vishwakarma “Oh! Vishwakarma, I have been always striving hard for the welfare of Jeeva, and remove their sins. Therefore, kindly construct magnificent Shivalinga and offer to deities.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Narada, Sage Vishwakarma prepared beautiful Lingas at the instruction of Lord Vishnu, and it was distributed among the deities and Sages. Oh! Sutha, Lord Indra received a Linga made of ruby, Lord Kubera received Linga made of gold, Dharmaraja received a Linga made of Topaz, Lord Varuna received a Linga made of dark blue stone, Lord Vishnu received the Linga made of Sapphire/Indraneela, and I have received a Linga of gold. The Vishwadeva and Vasus received Linga made of silver, Ashwini Kumaras received the Linga made of brass, Goddess Mahalakshmi received a crystal Linga, Adithyas received the Linga made of copper, Moon received the Linga of precious jewels, and Agni received the Linga made of gems. The illustrious Bhramins and their wives received the earthen Linga, Maya received the Linga made of sandalwood, and the serpent Anantha received the Linga made of coral. The female deities received the Linga wood, Yogis received the Linga made of sacred ashes. The Yakshas received the Linga made of curd, and the Chaya received the Linga made of flour. The supreme Goddess Bhavani received the Linga made of precious stone, Bana and others received the Linga made of Mercury.  In this way, the Vishwakarma made several Linga made of various precious stones and metals were reverentially distributed among the deities, Rishis, Vipras, Yakshas, Dhanavas, and Goddess as well. After that Lord Vishnu described the method of worship of the Linga, and the deities and Sages returned to their respective abode. Further, I spoke to the deities assembled “Oh! Deities, and Rishis, listen to the method of worship of Linga would provide an abundance of meritorious rewards. The life of a human is difficult to achieve on the Earth and it is superior among all the creatures, further, it is difficult to take birth in the illustrious clan of Brahmana.  The twice-born who have attained an abundance of piousness in his/her previous births would achieve the fortune to worship of Linga. The worship of Linga should be performed according to the prescribed rite for each Varnna and perform charities in one’s own capacity. Oh! Deities and Sages, Tapo Yajja is superior to thousands of Karma Yajja, and Japa Yajja is superior to thousands of Tapo Yajja. There is nothing superior to Dhyana Yajja, it is possible for the Yogis who are immersed in constant meditation and contemplation of the supreme Lord and it would enhance the Gnana of the worshiper.  The Yogis immersed in the meditation for years and years to achieve that supreme Bhramam, the supreme Lord Mahadeva reside close to them always.  These Yogis need not perform any Karma to remove their sins or perform any rites to nullify their sins.”

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Noble souls, the intellectuals who are aware of the Paramarththa Thaththva, the knowledge of the all-pervasive Bhramam, oneness-in-all, do not feel pleasure or pain, virtue or evil, sacrifices or Japa, or meditation and rules related to the performance of rites. They are Mukthathma with the knowledge of that Parambhramam, free from passions, desires, worldly matters and bondages, and fear of death. The worship of Linga bestows auspiciousness; it is Swayam Lord Shiva who is unblemished, omnipresent. Oh! Deities and Rishis, there are two types of Linga, one is Sthoola Linga and another one is Sookshma Linga.  The Karmakandis worship the Sthoola Linga, and Yogis adore the Sookshma Linga in their hearts. The whole Universe is the creation of that supreme Lord and he resides as a soul in living beings, therefore the worship of a subtle form of Linga/Sookshma Linga is considered as highly propitious. The Yogis remains pure like the lotus flower has grown in the muddy water remains untouched by it, similarly, the Grihastha who has the knowledge of the Shivathaththva performs their duties and responsibilities without getting attached to it, and continues to worship the Linga. The intellectuals, who have the knowledge of all-pervasive nature of Bhramam as Sath and Asath/living and non-living things, consider them as the shadow of the Sun seen in different pitchers of the waters. The devotees should continue the worship of the Linga until they attain the knowledge of ‘oneness-in-all’, the Sagunopasana helps the worshiper to achieve the highest status of ‘Nirgunopasana’, and it is considered as same the worship of other deities too. The devotee, who refuses to perform the Sagunaswaroopa without achieving the superior state, is considered as a sin.”

Sutha Pauranika speaks “Oh! twice-born, listen to me carefully, the worship of the deities and performance of the prescribed rites should be followed meticulously according to the Shastra, and the people of four Varnas and in the four Ashrama Dharma should strictly follow the rules prescribed in the Shastra. The performance of charities without the worship of the Lord is considered as a sin, the accumulated sins did not bring success to Jeeva. The worship of deities would remove impurities in the Jeeva, the attainment of knowledge would enhance the devotion and it would inspire them to perform noble deeds out of that sincere devotion. The achievement of knowledge would be possible with the devotion at the feet of the preceptor, and remaining in the association of ascetics, saintly people, scholars, and intellectuals. The constant association with the noble souls would lead in achieve the preceptor, the sacred hymns received as Manthropadhesha from the preceptor are used for the worship of the deities. The achievement of the supreme knowledge would lead to the realization of ‘Bhramam’, eventually, all the false perceptions will get destroyed and the Jeeva attains the Shivaswaroopa. Oh! Divine Rishis, once, the misapprehensions vanishes the Jeeva gets freed from pleasure and sin, grace and disgrace, joy and sorrow, etc. It is difficult to achieve that superior state and the mere witness of the Bhramamjjyani all the sins get destroyed, hence the Rishis are highly praised as the form of supreme Bhramam. Oh! Brahmins, the visit to various holy places and Theerthas, and veneration of deities is the gradual process to achieve that supreme Knowledge, some may attain that highest of that state with the sheer knowledge of the supreme Bhramam and envisions the supreme Lord in all the living and non-living things. The Jeeva should continue the veneration of Linga until he/she attains the highest state of spirituality, worship of the Linga is like watering the root of the tree that would help the tree to grow healthy. Oh! Munisaththama, I insist, watering the tree on its root, not on its branches. Therefore I would suggest the worship of Linga would bring the piousness of worship of all the deities.”

Chapter – 52 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 11

Rishis speak “Oh! Sutha Oh! Mahabhaga, Oh! Vyasashishya, we shall repeatedly prostrate before you. Oh! Sutha, you have brilliantly narrated the origin of the Nirguna Swaroopa of Lord Shiva as Linga, the legend praising the splendor of Linga and worship of the same would destroy all the miseries of the worshiper. Oh! Dhayanidhe, kindly describe the conversation between Lord Bhrama and Narada which took place regarding the worship of the Linga of supreme Lord Mahadeva. The Supreme Lord Shiva is worshiped by all the Varnas/Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra reverentially. Oh! Sutha, you must have heard the method of veneration of Ling of Lord Mahadeva from your preceptor Maharishi Vedavyasa.”

Sutha Pauranika enthusiastically begins to speak “ Oh! Munishwara, you have raised a brilliant question, which was keeping highly confidential all these days. I shall reveal it to you as per my knowledge that I have learned from my preceptor.  Previously, Sanathkumara raised the same question to Sage Upamanyu, and he learned it all from him. Maharishi Vedavyasa learned it from Sage Upamanyu which was narrated by the supreme Lord Krishna and later it was taught it to me for the welfare of the people in the Universe. Further, it was narrated by Lord Bhrama to Narada."

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Narada listen to me carefully, I shall briefly describe the veneration of the Linga. Oh! Mune, the adoration of the supreme Lord Shiva as Linga, cannot be described not even in the hundreds of years. The compassionate Lord Shiva who is unblemished and flawless showers an abundance of boons to his worshiper which is beyond words. The sufferings of poverty, various ailments, the threat of the enemy, and four types of sins like Bhramahathya would get destroyed with the worship of the Linga. It removes all the sufferings, miseries, and sorrows of the worldly existence; it would provide happiness and welfare, and liberation from the repeated births as well.  The childless couple would attain progeny with the grace of the worship of the Linga. The Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra worships Lord Shiva appropriately  according to their Varnna, and attains an abundance of piousness in their lives,  and all the desires get satisfied. I shall describe the process of veneration of Linga, which should be conducted during the Bhramamuhurtha, after the veneration of the preceptor, reciting the glorious hymns Shiva Ashtoththara, praising the sacred Theertha, Lord Hari and Lord Bhrama and deities are part of the veneration after performing the sun worship. The worship of Ling is performed with unbroken rice, fragrances, incense, earthen lamp and various ingredients, with the recitation, followed ‘Eshana: Sarvavidhyanam’ and ablutions of the Linga is performed with the Dhravyas like sandalwood paste, milk, Panchagavya, honey, curd, sugarcane juices, etc. performance of ablutions with the Ghee removes the sins of the worshiper. The adoration of Linga with the flowers like Kusha, Apamarga, camphor,  Champa, Trumpet flowers, Jasmine, lotuses, and various kinds of flowers with the sandalwood paste and water offered to Linga. The performance of ablutions with the recitation of Vedic chants provide meritorious rewards.”

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Vathsa, I shall briefly narrate what are the Manthras should be recited while performing the ablutions to the Linga. The Manthras that has been learned from the preceptor, the Manthras known by heart, Rudra Suktha, Nila Suktha, and the Manthras from the Shukla Yajurveda, Adharvasheersha, Shanthi Manthra, Aruna Manthra, Rama Manthra, Devaradhana Manthra, Pushpa Suktha, Rathanthara Manthra, Mrithyunjaya Manthra, Panchakshara Manthra, followed with the bathing of Linga with the sacred waters from thousands of streams or hundred and eight streams, according to one’s own capacity. These are the procedure to invoke the Linga, which is incomprehensible even for the Lord Bhrama, Vishnu, deities, Indra, Upendra. The supreme Lord Mahadeva is pure and eulogized by Veda and Vedantha, he is the essence of Veda, he has neither beginning nor end, he is eternal, he is the supreme cure for all the ailments. At the end of the veneration of Linga, the fruits, flowers, incense and betel leaves are offered to the deity and prostrated before the Linga, a final prayer is offered to the Lord to forgive all those mistakes done with the knowledge or without the knowledge, and appealing for the eternal grace of the Lord. Finally offering flowers at the feet of the Linga, recitation of Swasthivachana is performed to receive blessings from Bhramanas assembled. The recitation of Aghora Manthra is preformed with the prayer “Oh! Prabho, kindly shower your grace to remain your devotee in all my births. I shall take refugee at your lotus feet; kindly shower your eternal grace on us.” In this way, the supreme Lord Shiva should be worshiped, at the end of the worship, the sound of a male goat is uttered to please the Lord, and prostrate before the Lord with all the family members.  Whoever worships Lord Shiva with intense devotion and faith would achieve success in all endeavors, excellence in speech, all the desires get fulfilled, removes all the miseries, sufferings, ailments, sorrows, and grief, and the worshiper would achieve eternal grace of supreme Lord Shiva. The worshiper would achieve happiness and welfare, like the moon on the day of bright night, and achieve an abundance of meritorious rewards. Oh! Munisaththama, I have described all that briefly about the worship of the Linga. What else would you like to hear from me?”

Chapter – 51 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 10

Lord Mahadeva speaks “Oh! Hari, listen to me carefully, Oh! Vishnu, Oh! Suvratha, follow my instructions sincerely always, you will be honored and worshiped in the three worlds. Lord Bhrama would create the Universe and the living beings, and when the miseries and sufferings arise you should be capable to eliminate them, I will be always with you to assist you in this task, and I shall take immediate actions to eradicate them. Oh! Hari, always be prepared to incarnate in various forms to remove the sufferings on the Earth, in this way spread your splendor in the three worlds. I shall assume the form of Sagunaswaroopa Rudra, and perform the tasks in which you need my intervention; I promise you that I would definitely contribute my assistance to the tasks that require my intervention. Rudra would take care of your tasks and Bhrama would take care of Rudra. There is no difference between three of us and Rudra, we are the supreme Bhramam assumed the form of Trinities to perform the tasks of creation, preservation, and destruction at the end of Kalpa. You are the essence of the trinities, we perform various amusements for the welfare of the Universe and its people. If the devotee of Lord Rudra disrespects Lord Vishnu, all his virtues would be reduced to ashes. Oh! Purushoththama, whoever disgraces you would throw to hell; it is my promise to you. Oh! Vishnu, you would be showering auspiciousness and liberation to Jeeva, you will be venerated and highly respected among the deities and Jeeva.”

Lord Mahadeva took the hands of Lord Bhrama and Lord Hari and spoke affectionately “ Oh! Mithra, always render your help to the people who are in distress, Oh! Hari, you will be the presiding deities in the abode of deities, you should take care of the welfare of Jeeva and provide salvation to them. You will reside as a soul in them; I would incarnate as Rudra and remove the distress during the troubled period of time. Oh! Hari, whoever takes refugee at your lotus feet would be beloved of mine. Whoever finds differentiation between Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahadeva would definitely heave to hell. I shall describe the life span of the deities to you. The four thousand Yugas would be a day for Lord Bhrama, and the same contributes the night as well, and the life span of Bhrama would be a hundred years. Oh! Hari, a year of Bhrama would contribute a day of you, and the life span would be a hundred years. A year of Lord Vishnu contributes a day of Lord Shiva and the life span would be a hundred years, Goddess Shakthi is an inseparable part of mine and continued to remain with me during this period of time. Oh! Suroththama, all those living beings breathe for 21,600 times in twenty-four hours, it does not relate to Lord Sadashiva. Oh! Hari, therefore undertake the function of preservation of the Universe and its living beings.” Lord Bhrama and Lord Vishnu repeatedly prostrated before Lord Mahadeva.

Lord Vishnu speaks “Oh! Shankara who symbolizes auspiciousness, Oh! Ocean of the mercy, Lord of The universe, I shall perform all that have been instructed to me. You will remain, my beloved Lord, you will remain my beloved always and I have attained prowess from you. Oh! Prabho, give me intense devotion at your lotus feet, and your glorious form should not move out of my intellect not even for a second. Oh! Shankara, whoever disregards you would undergo constant troubles; it is my promise to you. Whoever worships you with sincere devotion would remain beloved of mine; this knowledge would make the Jeeva’s journey to liberation fruitful. Oh! Prabho, you have heightened my glories, if any mistakes from my part, kindly forgive me.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Narada, that compassionate Lord Mahadeva after listening to the amiable words of Vishnu, highly pleased and patted both of us affectionately, Oh! Vathsa, with that magical touch of that benevolent Lord Mahadeva, we have relieved from the miseries and grief, enlightened us with the knowledge of Dharma, and showered several boons on us. He gracefully looked at us and disappeared from our sight. Ever since the worship of Linga/Nirgunaswaroopa of Lord Shiva took place on the Earth, worship of the Linga would provide all kinds of pleasures on the Earth, and salvation from the repeated cycles of birth as well. The pedestal of the Linga represents Goddess Shakthi who is an inseparable part of him,  and the Ling is Swayam Shiva.  Whoever reads or listens to the glories of the ‘Linga’ would attain the eternal grace of Lord Shiva and remains Shiva himself.  Oh! Mahamune, whoever resides close to the shrine of Lord Shiva and conducts worships of Linga would attain commendable virtues, which is beyond words.”

Chapter – 50 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 9

Panchavakthra Thrinayano  Phalachandro Jatadhara: | Gauravarnno Vishalakshno Bhasmodhoolitha Vigraha: ||

Lord Bhrama speaks “ Lord Shiva who has five faces, has three eyes represents Soma, Surya, and Agni, has a fair complexion, attired in the skin of a leopard, smeared in sacred ashes, adorned in Rudraksha and serpents, adorned in a crescent moon and Goddess Ganga on matted hair locks, along with Goddess Parvathi highly pleased with the praise of Lord Vishnu. The Supreme Lord shiva who has ten arms, bluish throat, adorned in various ornaments, and beautiful Tripundra on the forehead. Lord Vishnu continued to praise that mighty Lord Shiva along with Goddess Parvathi. The compassionate Lord Shiva offered the four Veda from his breath, and later it was passed on to me by Lord Vishnu. Thus, Lord Vishnu after receiving the four Vedas from Lord Shiva offered humble salutation and spoke passionately “Oh! Prabho, How do you get pleased with the devotees? How did the worship should be carried out and contemplate upon you? Oh! Mahadeva, kindly advice me, Oh! Shankara, kindly enlighten us, we are pleased to follow your command. Oh! Prabho, Oh! Shiva, kindly advise us, you are the supreme Lord.”

Lord Bhrama continues “ Oh! Vathsa, that compassionate Lord Mahadeva, advised us to continue the worship of the Linga with sincere devotion.  The worship of Linga provides all the piousness and fulfills the desires of the worshiper. Lord Mahadeva advised us the worship of  Linga would remove all kinds of miseries. Oh! Mune, myself, and Vishnu are born from Prakrithi of that supreme Lord, initiated from the right and left side of that supreme Lord, he is Sarveshwara. Thus, Lord Parameshwara was immensely pleased with our devotion and expressed his willingness to provide boons. He advised us to construct Parththiva Shivalinga and conduct the worship, which could provide all the pleasures. The supreme Lord Mahadeva instructed me to begin the creation of the Universe and its living beings and Lord Vishnu would preserve the creation of mine. Oh! Vathsa, in this way, that supreme Lord enlightened us the highly propitious worship of Linga/Nirgunaswaroopa of that Lord.”

Lord Vishnu speaks “Oh! Prabho, if you are highly pleased with us, kindly give us a boon, to have intense devotion at your lotus feet. Oh! Prabho, you have been compassionate to us, revealed your Sagunaswaroopa as well. Oh! Prabho, you are formless/Nirguna Bramham and you have shown kindness to us. Oh! Devadevesha, the fierce battle with me and Lord Bhrama brought a good result, thereby we have achieved the grace of you.”

Lord Bhrama speaks "We both stood with folded hands before the supreme Lord Shiva along with Goddess Parvathi."

Lord Mahesha speaks “Oh! Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu, even though I am formless, Parambhramam, impassionate, and supreme bliss, I perform the creation of the Universe and its living beings, preserve it, and destroys it at the end of Kalpa. Oh! Mithra, I am that Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Maheshwara, and performs the function of creation, preservation, and destruction respectively. Hence I am absolute Bramham. Oh! Lord Vishnu you have eulogized me with the prayer for the self-protection from the battlefield, I am beloved of my devotees. There is no difference between Lord Shiva and Lord Rudra, both are my aspects, like the precious metals used to create exquisite ornaments of various types, but the aspect of gold remains the same. The clay used to make different models of the pots, but the aspect of the clay remains the same. Oh! Bhrama and Oh! Vishnu, the learned people always remember the all-pervasive nature of mine, it would not causes any conflicts. Lord Shiva is all-pervasive, eternal truth is supreme wisdom, and endless. You both have formed out of the Prakrithi, except Rudra, I am self-manifested; Rudra represents Ahamkara of mine, not the Tamas. You both will undertake the function of creation and preservation respectively; I would perform the function of deluge as Rudra, and Goddess Uma is  Prakrithi. The Shakthi born out of Prakrithi will be known as the goddess of excellence of speech and Goddess of wealth; they would serve Lord Bhrama and Lord Vishnu respectively, another form of Shakthi is Kali who serves Rudra. She would assume various forms in the Universe to perform several tasks. Oh! Bhrama and Oh! Vishnu I have explained about the ‘Trishakthi’ who are highly auspicious serves three of us, and these ‘Trishakthi’ contributes an abundance of help in the creation, preservation, and destruction. These Goddesses of excellence of speech and Goddess of wealth are initiated from Prakrithi. Oh! Bhrama you can begin the function of creation with the knowledge acquired from Veda, and Lord Vishnu would preserve them. I reside in the heart of Vishnu and vice versa. You both have emerged out of my right and left part of the limb, therefore there is no difference between us. Rudra who was born out of my heart, I represent three aspects of Bhrama, Vishnu, and Bhava, and perform the functions of creation, preservation, and destruction with the Trigunas/Rajasik, Sathvik, and Tamasik. Lord Shiva has the Trigunas therefore he is beyond Purusha and Prakrithi. I am the supreme Lord, endless, flawless, and pure. Hari  is the protector of the Universe, with the Sathvik nature and Hara is the destroyer of the Universe at the end of Kalpa with the Tamasic nature. Bhrama possesses Rajoguna and creates the Universe and its living beings. Therefore the Trinities possessed ‘Triguna’ except Shiva. Lord Vishnu will be worshiped in the three worlds, and Rudra who is the incarnation of Shiva will be worshiped by Bhrama and Lord Vishnu. The lotus born  Bhrama would be known as Pithamaha.”

Chapter – 49 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 8

Panchavakthram Dhashabhujam Gaura Karpooravan Mune | Nana Kanthisamayuktham  Nana Bhooshana  Bhooshitham ||MahodharamMahaveeryam Mahapurusha Lakshanam | Tham Dhrishtva Paramamroopam Kritharththoayambhoonmaya Hari: ||

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Munishreshta, I, and Lord Vishnu continued the worship of the pillar of flame for several years; eventually, our pride got washed away. The Supreme Lord Shiva, who is merciful, removes the impurities and pride of Jeeva, and the protector of the Universe and its living beings rose from the pillar of flame with the utterance of ‘Om, Om’. We were extremely happy, forgot all the enmities between us. The deities surprised to hear the reverberating sound of ‘Om’ in the atmosphere, witnessed the supreme Lord Shiva who is Sanathana, on the right of the Linga, there were the sacred syllables of Akara, Ukara and Makara appeared, the supreme Bhramam which is the ultimate asylum, pure and unblemished, free from changes, has neither beginning nor end, the eternal truth, and supreme bliss. The sounds of Vedic chants reverberated in the atmosphere; a Sage appeared before me and Lord Vishnu and introduced the Shabdhabhramam to us, which is the supreme Lord Mahadeva who is Parambhramam. The supreme Lord Rudra is free from afflictions, adorned with the sacred syllable ‘Om’, he is Paramakarana who is the supreme cause of the Universe and its living beings, he represents Sathyam, Anandham, Amrutham as well. He is Parathpara, the Akara represents Lord Bhrama who is the creator, and the Ukara represents Lord Vishnu who is the ultimate cause for the Universe and preserves it. The Makara represents Lord Shiva who is all-pervasive, graceful, and benevolent.  The Akara is originated from the Hariyoni, Pradhanapurushewara came into existence with the instruction of Lord Shiva. The seed in the Hariryoni ‘Ukara’ turned into golden Egg which is beyond perception, remained in the water for several thousands of years, eventually, it was broken and the four-faced Bhrama emerged out of it. Lord Shiva represents the trinities, Bhrama, Vishnu and Shiva who undertakes the functions of creation, preservation, and the destruction of the Universe, and the Rig, Yajur, Sama Veda addressed it as ‘Om’. Thus, all the deities realized the supremacy of Lord Shiva and eulogized him.”

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Vathsa, Oh! Mune, in the meantime, Lord Vishnu who is Vishwapalaka saw a magnificent Maha Purusha with five faces, charming appearance, ten arms, has fair complexion resembles camphor, has supreme radiance, adorned in various precious ornaments. He has great prowess, benevolent, has all those divine symbols of supreme Purusha, we both were extremely blissful watching the mesmerizing form of Lord Mahadeva.”

The ‘अ’Akara represents his head,  आ’  Aakara represents his forehead, ‘इ’ Ekara represents his right eye, ‘ ई’ Eekara represents the left eye, the ‘उ’ U and ‘ऊ’ Uu represents right and left ears, ‘ऋ’ Ri and ‘ऋ’ Rii right and left cheeks, the nostrils represent ‘लृ’  ‘lir and ‘ल्रु’  liru’, the upper and lower lips represent ‘ए’‘Ye and ‘ऎ’ Yee’, the upper and lower line of teeth represents ‘ओ’  ‘Okara, ‘ ’ Aukara, and the palates represent ‘अं’ Am and Aha ‘:’.  The five right hands represent ‘, , , , …’, the five left hands represents ‘ ज ..’

‘Tha’ stands for the legs, ‘ Pa’ represents belly, ‘Pha’ represents the right part of the body, ‘ba’ represents left part of the body, ‘bha’ represents shoulders, and the sacred syllable ‘Ma’ represents Heart of that supreme Lord Mahadeva. The letters ‘Ya, Ra, La, Va, Zha, Sha, and Sa represents seven Dhathu, ‘ha’ represents navel, and ‘Ksha’ represents nose.

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Mune, we could witness that marvelous Sagunaswaroopa of the supreme Lord Mahadeva with Goddess Parvathi, the sacred syllables embedded on them, watching them we transported to the state of transcendental. We offered humble salutation to that supreme Lord who has Saguna as well as Nirgunaswaroopa, the essence of Shabdha Bhramam and stood contemplating upon him. The thirty-eight sacred syllables and Omkara provides intelligence, Dharma, Artha same as the Gayathri Manthra which comprises twenty-four syllables. Lord Vishnu secured these highly auspicious Mrithyunjaya Manthra, Panchakshara Manthra, Chinthamani Manthra, Dhakshinamurthi Manthra, and the Thaththvamasi Manthra which is the Mahavakya of supreme Lord Mahadeva, for the performance of recitation and rites. The Rig, Yajur, Sama represents the supreme Lord Mahadeva who is Puranapurusha, all-pervasive Sadhashiva, who is pleasant. The Vamapadha Mahadeva is adorned in serpents all over the body, whose arms, feet, hair, and eyes spread all over directions. Oh! Vathsa, the creator, preserver, and destroyer, are none other than Supreme Lord Mahadeva, who carries out the above functions as Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva respectively.”

Chapter – 48 – Rudra Samhitha/Shrishti Kanda – 7

Karthum Dharthum Bhavanangadhavatheernna Mamavyayath | Vismrithoasi Jagannatham Mahabhahum Narayanam Anamayam || Purusham Paramathmanam  Puruhutham Purushtutham | Vishnu Achyutham Eshanam Vishwasya  Prabhavothbhavam || Narayanam Mahabhahum Sarvavyapakam Eshwaram | Mannabhi Padmasthavam Hi Prasoothe Na Athra Samshaya: ||

Lord Bhrama speaks to Narada “Oh! Narada, Lord Vishnu undertook Yognidra, a huge lotus flower emerged from his navel and the stem of this lotus has no end, has the length of several miles of Yojana, the lotus flower has the brilliance of crores of Sun, resembles the highest of the philosophies, the magnificence of the lotus flower is beyond words.  The Supreme Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi, with the powerful Maya, performed an amusement, created me on the lotus flower which was emerged out of the navel of Lord Vishnu. Lord Mahadeva created me as Hiranyagarbha, with four-faced, fair complexioned, forehead adorned in Thripundra. As I was created from the Maya of that supreme Lord Mahadeva,  I was not aware of my origin, I was ignorant, I could hardly recognize that supreme Lord Mahadeva. I was not aware of the purpose of my origin, I was curious to know about my origin, I was drenched immense fears and uncertainties, I was curious to know about my birth and the other end of the lotus flower that was emerged out of the navel of supreme Lord Vishnu. Thus, hundreds of years, I have been wandering inside the lotus stem searching for my origin; once again I have bounced back to the place where I have begun. Oh! Mune, I was terribly annoyed watching there is no way to move upwards, and stopped, soon I could hear a divine voice instructing me to do ‘Tapa’, thus I have conducted Tapas for twelve years to know the place of origin and purpose as well.”

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Vathsa, at the end of the Tapas, I could witness the supreme Lord Narayana who has four arms holding Shankha, Chakra, Gadha, Padmam, beautiful eyes resembles lotus flower petals, he has the complexion of dark-clouds, attired in majestic yellow silk garment, he was adorned in the marvelous crown and various precious ornaments all over the body had a pleasing smile, I was so confused watching that marvelous form of Lord Vishnu who is the source of Sath and Asath, I was completely under the Maya of Lord Shiva, failed to recognize my own father Lord Narayana appeared before me.  Lord Vishnu spoke affectionately “Oh! Vathsa, you are welcome, do not be afraid, Oh! Pithamaha, I shall remove all the worries and fulfill all that you desired.” I was skeptical watching the supreme Lord Vishnu, spoke “Oh! Sinless one, I am the cause for the destruction; you are addressing me as a child. I am the creator of the Universe and its living beings, I have created the Prakrithi, I am all-pervasive Bhrama and I was born out of the navel of Lord Vishnu. How could you address me as your son? I am the creator of the Universe and its living beings, Oh! Pankajekshana, the Veda eulogizes me as self-manifested, as the supreme Bhrama who has no birth, and omnipresent.” Lord Ramapathi got annoyed listening to my haughty speech.”

Lord Vishnu spoke “I know you are the creator, emerged out of the navel of that supreme Lord Narayana, but you have failed to recognize me as the  Lord of the Universe, Narayana who has powerful arms, Anamaya/infallible and Jagannatha. You have created by the Supreme Lord who is worshiped by deities, known as Vishnu, Acchyutha, Eshana, creator, and preserver of the Universe and its living being, the supreme Lord Narayana who has mighty arms and the omnipresent Eshvara are the same. You have besieged by the Maya of the supreme Lord Shiva, so there is no fault in you. Oh! Bhrama listen to me, I am the supreme Lord who is the creator, preserver, and destroyer of the Universe, Oh! Bhrama, I am the supreme Bhramam and Thathva as well. I am the ‘Paramjyothi’/supreme brilliance, I am the Paramathma, who is the commander of the Jeeva, resides as a soul in living beings, I am omnipotent and omnipresent. I am the creator of the Universe and all the living beings. Oh! Bhrama, all that has appeared was enveloped in me, this Universe and its living beings, and the twenty-four Thaththvas has been merged in me. You have born out of my limbs; you have come in to view as a part of my amusement. I have created all those Pancha Thanmanthra, Panchamahabhoothas, intellect, Ahamkara, mind, body, and sense organs. Oh! Bhrama, I am the Prajanatha, I am capable to protect everyone from the grief and sorrows, whoever takes shelter in me.” Lord Bhrama was infuriated and spoke “Who are you? You are unreasonable, you are not supreme Lord or supreme Bramham, cannot be self-manifested.”

Lord Bhrama speaks to Narada “Oh! Vathsa, I have been besieged under the Maya of Lord Shiva, had a fierce battle with that supreme Lord Vishnu, suddenly a huge Linga/pillar of flame appeared before us. It has neither beginning nor end, the huge Linga emitted thousands of flames, resembled the Kalagni/colossal fire at the end of Yuga. It was beyond description and comparison. Lord Hari got enticed watching the colossal fire pillar; even I was too fascinated by that sight.”

Lord Bhrama spoke to Lord Vishnu, “we both were self-praising, what is that third element before us? Therefore we should stop quarreling with each other and find its origin. How did the huge pillar of flame appear before us? Where did it come from?”

Lord Bhrama speaks to Narada “Oh! Vathsa, thus we have decided to locate the origin of the pillar of flame, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of wild boar and plunged down to Earth, and I have assumed the form of a swan and took flight in the sky, thus I have got the name ‘Hamsavirat’, the illustrious Rishis and Sages contemplates upon me as ‘Hamsa’ to attain purity. I have assumed the form a huge swan of white complexion, and beautiful wings, and took the journey towards the sky with the speed of the wind and mind. The Supreme Lord Narayana assumed the form of a white wild boar with the enormous size of hundreds of Yojanas resembled Mount Sumeru, lustrous sharp protruding teeth, long nostrils, and produced a terrific sound. He plunged down to Earth at a great speed. In this way, Lord Vishnu continued to descend for thousands of years, in search of the bottom of the pillar of flame/Linga that was beginning of Swetha Varaha Kalpa. Oh! Devarishe, thus Lord Vishnu who assumed the form of Varaha roamed in the nether world for a long time, but he could not find the bottom of the Linga. I was roaming in the sky during that period, even though I have tried my best, I could not succeed in finding the top of the pillar of flame. Therefore I came back, similarly, the supreme Lord Vishnu returned to the Earth. Kamalalochana who was besieged by the Maya, repeatedly prostrated before the Linga/ Lord Shiva, soon I also joined with him and worshiped that pillar of flame/Linga.”

Sutha Pauranika speaks “Oh! Vipra, Lord Bhrama, and Lord Vishnu stunned watching the enormous size of the pillar of flame; they stood before the Ling in extreme disappointment and prayed to that supreme Lord “Oh! Supreme Lord Mahesha, Oh! Mahaprabhu, we shall repeatedly prostrate before you. We are not aware of your splendor; kindly reveal your real form to us.” Thus Lord Vishnu and Lord Bhrama continued to worship that pillar of flame for hundreds of years.”

Lord Bhrama speaks “Oh! Intelligent one, you have raised a brilliant question, you always seek the welfare of the people. Whoever listens or recites the Shiva Thaththva and the splendor of Lord Mahadeva would get relieved from their sins. Oh! Thatha, even I and Lord Vishnu are not conscious of the Shivathaththva, it has been highly confidential always. During the end of Mahapralaya/deluge, the sun, moon and stars disappear, eventually there will be complete darkness, and the living and non-living things undergo massive ruin, there will be only stark darkness. There will be no existence of Sparasha, Rasa, Gandha, Roopa, etc. The Veda describes the presence of Bhramam in the utter darkness, the Sath and Asath cannot be seen, it cannot be explained by words and it is beyond perception as well. The Bramham has no name or color, no specific appearance; it has neither gross nor subtle form. It is neither small nor big, and brief or vast, or expands nor squeeze. The Veda eulogizes that the Bhramam is eternal truth; it is supreme knowledge that is immeasurable, blissful, and eternal. It is beyond size, measure, or change; it is formless, void of attributes, which is perceptible to Yogis. This all-pervasive Bhramam is the cause of the Universe and its living beings. It is beyond comparison, it has neither beginning nor end, it is free of the influence of Maya, it is unblemished and pure, and it is the essence of supreme consciousness and pure knowledge. This all-pervasive Bhramam is the cause of the creation of living and non-living things. That supreme Bhramam assumes a glorious form, and perform various amusements, symbolizes fortune and auspiciousness, prowess, virtues, etc. It is all-pervasive, knower-of – all, mighty and enlightens the souls.”

Lord Bhrama continues “Oh! Vathsa, The Eshwara who has an auspicious appearance is beyond comparison and immeasurable, he is the supreme form of consciousness and has supreme brilliance,  he symbolizes highest of the knowledge, he is all-pervasive and indestructible.  The supreme Bhramam is Lord Sadhashiva, he is Eshwara who is the preceptor of the Universe. The supreme Lord Eshwara created his Shakthi also known as Pradhanaprakrithi,  Ambika, Maya,  Gunavathi, and Para. She is the Janani of  Buddhi Thaththva, and she is unblemished. The supreme Prakrithi/Shakthi, Bhavagavathi, Paramba, is the mother of the Trinities. She is the Janani of Bhrama, Vishnu and Lord Maheshwara, she is the supreme Goddess of the three worlds. She is the cause of the Universe and its living beings. Shakthi symbolizes auspiciousness, she has eight arms, she has a stunning appearance, and her face excels the luster of thousands of autumn moon. She is adorned in magnificent ornaments all over the body, she holds vicious weapons in the eight arms, and her eyes have the resemblance of fully bloomed lotus flowers. She has supreme brilliance, she creates the living and non-living things in the Universe. She is Maya of supreme Lord Eshwara, and she takes various forms according to her will.  The Paramapurusha, the supreme Lord Shiva who have three eyes, have beautiful matted hair locks adorned in a crescent moon, and Devi Ganga.  The Supreme Lord Shiva has five heads, three eyes on each face resembled Surya, Chandra, and Agni, he has pleasing look, holds a powerful trident, he has fair complexion resembles the luster of camphor, smeared in sacred ashes all over the body.  The Parambhrama resembles the ‘Kala’/time as well, with the inseparable association of Shakthi built a shrine known as the supreme abode of Shivaloka. The sacred place Kashi on the Earth is considered as superior, which provides salvation to Jeeva.  It is the place where the primordial deities Lord Shiva and Shakthi lives permanently, perform various amusements, and live in supreme bliss. Therefore the city of Kashi is called Avimukthakshethra, the Shiva and Shakthi are inseparable and will not get separated even at the time of the deluge. Previously, this sacred place of Kashi was named Anandavana, by Lord Shiva who is Pinakindhari, later it came to know as Avirmukthakshethra. Oh! Narada, Lord Shiva, and Shakthi were blissfully roaming in the sacred city, desired to have somebody to look after the creation and preservation of the Universe so that they can undertake Vairagya. Thus, Lord Vishnu was created out of the Saththvik nature of that supreme Lord Sadhashiva. Lord Vishnu who the complexion of dark clouds, has four arms holding Shakha, Chakra, Gadha, and the Padma, attired in majestic yellow silk garment, adorned in marvelous ornaments all over the body, appeared before Shiva and spoke passionately “Oh! Prabho, kindly name me and describe my duties”   Lord Shiva was pleased and pronounced “You will be known as the all-pervasive Vishnu, will be known in several names by your devotees, carryout Tapas to attain eminence in the assigned task.” Thus, Lord Vishnu offered salutation to Lord Shiva and went to conduct Tapas.  Thus Lord Vishnu conducted Tapas for twelve thousand years, did not attain the grace of Lord, and further contemplated upon Lord Shiva.   Finally, Lord Shiva advised Lord Vishnu to conduct Tapas for another few years, achieved the knowledge of Bhrama Thaththva. The influence of Maya caused to appear several watercourses form the body of Lord Shiva and shortly all those watercourses disappeared and appeared as Shunya/Bhramam, the mere touch of that Bhramam would destroy all the sins. Lord Vishnu, who is none other than Purusha and Prakrithi, reclined on the Serpent Anantha in the ocean, due to extreme fatigue of long Tapas, he is eulogized as Narayana by the Veda. The Mahath Thaththvas, Trigunas and the five essential elements known as Agni, Vayu, Akash, Jalam, and Bhoomi, was appeared from the Prakrithi.  Oh! Rishi Saththama, I have narrated all those twenty-four Prakrithi Thathtthva to you. The Supreme Lord Vishnu who is Purusha accepted all those Thaththva, reclined on the serpent Anantha.”
